I just completed up one more ill-gotten bar of hotel soap (L’Occitane Shea Butter soap in Milk, my fav) as well as chose to open up a full sized soap next.  The Yves Rocher custom de Hammam Oriental Soap with Argan as well as Olive Oil was something I purchased on a whim, in purchase to qualify for totally free shipping on an on the internet order.

It’s noted as $17 for a 5.3 oz. / 150 g bar, however I understand that I paid less than half that cost when I purchased mine. That’s the thing to always keep in mind with Yves Rocher (YR): never ever pay full cost for anything from there.  They continuously have sales as well as all the products go on sale in rotation.

This soap is not your typical bar of soap, it’s rather extravagant as well as is available in a elegant metallic bronze coloured box, with the soap itself wrapped in frosted cellophane.

Upon opening the wrapper, the charm of the soap itself is revealed:

It practically looks great sufficient to eat!

The bar is HUGE!  What’s strange is that it lathers up in reddish brown suds, as well as when it rinses, it makes the water a bit bit reddish brown too.

The primary reason why I purchased this soap was since I had tried the Oriental shower Oil from the exact same variety (it was a gwp), as well as I liked the odor of it (I’m not typically an “Oriental” fragrance fan, however this didn’t have a deep musky base note – it was actually a soft nutty smell).  Unfortunately, the soap doesn’t have the exact same fragrance – it smells mainly of olive oil to me.  Which isn’t required a poor thing, I just expected it to match the shower oil.  That was the only letdown really.

I’ve never attempted get polish removal by myself before – I’ve always gone back to the beauty salon where I had the gel polish applied and paid the $10 to have someone else to soak off them for me.  I was curious in trying to remove them myself and found this wikihow article – it doesn’t seem that difficult!

First, this is what my gel nails look like exactly 2 weeks after I had them applied:

Not bad huh! I only had a tiny little chip on the tip of my right thumb where I caught it on a zipper accidentally.  I do have quite a bit of nail growth though. The method I’m showing you will also work for stubborn glitter nail polishes too!

Now, onto the removal – according to the instructions, essentially there are 2 methods:
1. soak off – place finger tips into a bowl of pure acetone and wait for the gel polish to melt off
2. foil – encase finger tips with acetone soaked cotton balls wrapped in foil and wait for the gel polish to melt off

I chose option 2 since that’s how I’ve removed glitter polish before.  I prepped my materials:

The craptastic Quo luxury cotton cut into halves and aluminum foil cut into approximately 4×4″ squares.

Acetone-based nail polish remover – this one is from Sally beauty supply and it’s what I use to remove all my nail polishes.  It is probably more effective to use 100% acetone but I don’t have any on hand.  Not shown: a wooden cuticle pusher stick.

I wrapped each finger starting from the pinkie – first drenching each cotton pad with the acetone remover, then enclosing each finger nail with foil to hold the cotton in place:

Note that I only worked on one hand at the time because a) it would have been impossible to wrap the 2nd hand with the foil tip in place on my other hand b) I needed a free hand so I could still take photos for this entry

I waited for 15 minutes – the instructions said 10 minutes but I waited the extra 5 just to be safe.  I peeled back just the pinkie to see the progress:

The polish was bubbling.  I was ready to scrape using a wooden cuticle stick.

I found that it wasn’t scraping off as cleanly as it should be so I googled for tips on gel polish removal, and I noted that some people say to buff the gel polish before soaking them in acetone.  This is supposed to break down the top coat and make it easier for the acetone to penetrate.  So I decided to try that on my other hand:

I used a fine grit buffing block (yes, my cuticles are really dry)

And repeated the same process of wrapping each finger in foil and acetone soaked cotton – it worked better! The polish scraped off much easier.  Voila:

Total time: 40 minutes

सुझाव:
• Buff the gel polish first before wrapping
• Do one hand at a time to save yourself the nightmare of trying to wrap the 2nd hand with foil tipped fingers (or ask a friend who can help)
• put on a TV show while you’re waiting for the polish to soak off
• place a paper towel or piece of foil on the surface where you’ll be working to catch all of the gel polish shavings when scraping
• apply cuticle oil after removing the gel polish to help hydrate the nails – acetone is very drying

If you listened to the most recent MyLipAddition podcast, you would have heard me ranting about doing project Pan! I remain committed to this cause, but I have to admit, wearing the same makeup day in, day out, is really challenging when you have so lots of other options staring at you!

Today’s review is an item that is actually discontinued:

The Lancôme Khol in love eye liner in 101 chocolate affair was released as part of the spring 2013 In love collection, which featured charming Emma Watson:

I only picked up the eye liner from the collection, generally due to glowing reviews from RAEviewer (oh, the power of appeal gurus). But, I was pleased to have picked this one because I love this liner! and I’m really bummed that it was a limited edition formula.

First, I must address the spelling of “Khol” in the name. That’s how Lancôme spelled it. The proper way is “Kohl”. but I guess it’s creative license by the peeps at Lancôme.

It’s just a classic pencil liner, but the formula simply works with my eyes. I generally wear pencil liners on my lower lash line – for my upper lash line, I prefer a liquid or gel liner. Some pencil liners are really buttery smooth when I apply them, but they don’t stay put, or they tend to fade through the day. I’ve tried many liners from all the popular ones (Urban Decay, MAC, NYX etc) but this Lancome Khol in love is one of my all time favourites. Let’s compare some liners from my stash:

Note that I mostly use brown eye liners. I just don’t like the harshness of black on me. I wear brown, taupe, grey and often navy but rarely straight black liners. I chose brown / grey non-shimmery liners for comparison:

Yes, I have a minor problem with collecting eye liners too.

Every pencil applies smoothly – the most gel-like are Shu Uemura and Avon SuperShock – they nearly feel like liquid.

Here is the smudge test – I let the liners dry for about 5 minutes before smudging them. The top portion is smudged across with a cotton bud dipped in oil (to simulate my oily eyes!) and the bottom portion is smudged just with a dry cotton bud (to simulate rubbing).  Look at how the Shu Uemura, both Lancômes and the Avon just do NOT budge!  I will say though, having worn all of them, my preferred formulas are the Shu Uemura and Lancômes – I find the Avon to be really smeary and actually migrates onto my eyeballs.

This is me rubbing cleansing oil to remove the swatches – that Shu Uemura just refuse to quit!

Sadly, the Lancôme Khol in love eye liner itself is drying out and has shrunk away from the wooden casing:

This was a recent phenomenon – when I went to sharpen it (for the 3rd time considering that starting project Pan!), the lead fell ideal out! It’s still usable but I will toss this liner at the conclusion of project Pan, considering that I do have lots of other liners that I can use.

The Lancôme Khol in love eye liner is made in Germany (as is a lot of other eyeliners) and nearly all of the ones shown above are also made in Germany, even the Shu Uemura. The one exception is Dolly Wink, which is made in Japan.

I forgot to take a photo of the pencil on the scale… but it went down a bit from a recent sharpening:

When I started the project, the pencil measured 9.8cm, it is now 8.3cm.
