I received the Aloette Aloepure Restorative Enzyme Peel last  Christmas from the MIL.  And I just opened it a couple of weeks ago…

It’s the exact same idea as the Japanese cult product, remedy natural Aqua Peeling Gel.  I had utilized a peeling gel product before, called O’slee Rosehip Peeling Gel, which irritated my skin because of so much handbook scrubing of my skin. Some people insurance claim that the bit peeling beads are dead skin being scrubed off, however I beg to differ – it’s just the product beading up on itself.  I did a test on the back of my hand – used the gel 3 times consecutively as well as each time the product beaded up.  If it was truly scrubing off my dead skin, why would there still be so much “dead skin” after the very first as well as second peels?

Overall it’s a good product however I looked up the item online (for research study purposes) as well as discovered out that the 65g jar costs $47! I’ve been drinking a lot of ginger ale this week because my tummy’s been obnoxiously gurgly, and I’ve also been, at times, concurrently wearing MAC Gingerly blush ($25).

Today’s trending topic: ginger

Where do you stand on the crucial issue of ginger?

It’s a very divisive plant, isn’t it? — like cilantro. Some people love the stuff, and some people don’t. in that way it’s also like thumb rings and French idea nails…

I don’t mind a little bit when it’s sweet, like in ginger ale or ginger snaps, but I’m normally NOT down with ginger in a lot of culinary dishes. I guess my tastebuds are really sensitive to it, because often when it’s in a dish, it’s the only thing I can taste.

My brother is the total opposite. He can literally gnaw on a piece of ginger root all afternoon, which is kind of funny considering that he used to be terrified of ginger when he was a kid.

Because when we were little, my mommy would bring us with her to the grocery store, and I’d get hold of a piece of ginger (usually the piece that looked a lot of like the gnarled hand of an evil wizard) and chase him around the store with it.

Here’s a bit of a throw back Thursday post. It’s been nearly 2 months since I returned from Japan!  Here are some non-beauty bits I picked up from Japan.

I didn’t do much clothing shopping in Japan. There wasn’t a ton there that I couldn’t get here at home. Although, I was a big fan of their style: the standard outfit consisted of elastic waist a-line skirt and a loose boxy top, worn with platform wedge sandals or Birkenstocks. It was all about comfort!

Uniqlo

I was so excited to stumble on the liberty of London x Uniqlo while I was there! I ended up buying 2 items from the collection:

“Relaco” culottes – these are so comfy! (culottes are very popular in Japan, I noticed)

Canvas tote – mine has navy handles and base instead of the white.

And this was from Uniqlo’s regularly line:

V-neck overalls (this is what the Google translate spits out when I translated this “Vネックサロペット”) – I’d call this a romper. I got this because it looks like the quintessential “Japanese” fashion. here are typical Japanese women’s outfits:

I aim to emulate these looks when I wear the romper!

Clothes shopping is a pleasant experience in Japan – they provide shoes of various heights to try on with your items. I experienced something similar at higher end stores in Hong Kong as well.

They also provide these disposable face cover sheets so you don’t soil the clothes with your makeup – smart!  Uniqlo is planning to open a location in Toronto this October – it will be interesting to see how the pricing will be for the Canadian market.

Daiso and Can⋆Do

These are the Japanese version of a dollar store. Things are priced by increments of ¥100 – the most expensive things I’ve seen are ¥500 (~C$6.30)

Pencil holders – I don’t know how they are able to sell these for only ¥200 each (~C$2.50) and they’re made in Japan!

I plan to use these to hold eyeliners and shorter brushes.

Hello Kitty pouch – not sure what I’m going to use this for but it’s an authentic Sanrio product for ¥100 (~C$1.25). This was the only hello Kitty item I bought on the whole trip, even though the selection was extensive:

SHOCKER!

Foaming net, and cotton buds – if you look up articles of what to buy in Japanese drugstores, more often than not you’ll see them recommend Japanese cotton buds. They’re supposed to be superior to what we get here.

I saw some up for sale that were made in China so I made sure to buy ones made in Japan!

Clear plastic earrings and hair elastics – I have nickel allergies and so far, I’ve only been able to wear earrings with titanium posts. But, I find titanium very heavy to wear for an extended period of time. I’ve heard of these little plastic earrings before but they’re not available locally.  I hope these work for me! and the hair elastics are just like the Invisibobbles, which retails $10 for 3pcs. This cost me ¥100 (~C$1.25) for 6pcs!

Japanese socks – 2 of them have the toe separation meant to be worn with Geta “下駄” (traditional Japanese sandals). The one on the right has a cat design at the heel. They’re so cute!

Bracelet kit, coin purse frame, and liberty of London fabric – I stumbled upon a crafting section inside a department store:

I felt up some of the knitting yarns but ultimately decided not to buy any.

But I did find some Marimekko and Liberty of London fabric (I think these were quilting squares).

And a vast selection of frames to make coin purses.

Here’s something you don’t know about me – I love old-fashioned coin purses with the twist clasps. I just find them so precious. I’ve never made my own so I’m excited to try!

Nanoblocks in Pikachu and giant Panda – I’ve been interested in getting Nanoblocks for ages but they’re overpriced online. funny that I bought the Pikachu way before the whole Pokémon GO thing started!  I wanted things that were “Japanesey”, hence also the panda.

ハイチュウ Hi-Chew

This is my favourite candy! We discovered the Japanese-made Hi-Chews in a local Japanese market in Toronto a few years ago and have been buying them every time we come across them. There are also “Hi-Chew” which are made in Taiwan and we don’t like those as much. The Japanese-made ones have only the Japanese name “ハイチュウ” on the package, whereas the Taiwanese made ones show the English name. read more about the differences here.  So naturally we had to stock up:

These are the regular flavours that you can find at most convenient stores (top to bottom): Strawberry, green Apple, Grape, and Lemon.

These are some special ones we came across at random places like train stations and Daiso (top to bottom): Cola, Bitter Orange (omg I want to marry this flavour), Kagoshima Yuzu Fruit (which is a citrus fruit similar to grapefruit), and rich Mango. I am just gutted that I didn’t buy more than 1 of the Bitter Orange flavour – there’s nothing bitter about it, it’s just an intense orange flavour with bits of orange rind (like marmalade) inside. Mon Aug 1 – Civic holiday so a day off from work! I satisfied with my good friend from Newfoundland for lunch.

Tues Aug 2 – went to a MUJI open home event as well as got some stationery loot to play with!

Wed Aug 3 – I had 5 meetings that spanned 7 hours, leaving me with 1 hour to do actual work – however the happiness highlight is that I got to eat my sushi lunch during a seminar call.

Thurs Aug 4 – I got to pet 2 puppies in 2 separate puppy encounters. One was a French Bulldog, as well as the other was a poodle type as well as both tried to play with me by nipping at my hand with their sharp bit teeth!

Fri Aug 5 – went to MAC over lunch with coworker as well as she treated me to some eye shadows!

Sat Aug 6 – watched the new Jason Bourne movie, which was enjoyable (although the very first one is still the best).

Sun Aug 7 – satisfied up with feline (my PLC!) to do Back to MAC!

I’ve had this exact same card since I was a bit kid! It’s cracked as well as the laminate is peeling off… sniff sniff, bye bye red & white card!

Fri Aug 12 – lastly made the decision to go to the walk-in center for a recurring hive / rash circumstance on my legs that I’ve been dealing with for a month. The center had no line-ups at all – the center doc had no hint about what I had, as well as provided me a referral to a dermatologist for Monday.

Sat Aug 13 – had lunch at Burger’s priest as well as ate my favourite burger there, the Option:

Wed Aug 17 – two meetings at work got canceled very first thing this morning!

Thurs Aug 18 – took the day off work for dentist as well as physician (my routine doc, not the derm) visit – my skin biopsy site is infected as well as I got prescribed antibiotics. We ordered pizza for dinner instead of cooking.

Fri Aug 19 – called in ill (I never phone call in sick, I dislike doing it! This was my very first ill day this year) since my leg still wasn’t feeling great, however it definitely improved from the day prior. I had to keep my leg elevated so I mainly sat or slept, however I ate the very best bbq pork fried rice for lunch!

Sat Aug 20 – one more low key day to let my leg heal so I watched a lot of YouTube videos as well as saw this:

Such a neat idea! may have to borrow it for the blog. I just like single eye shadows!

Sun Aug 21 – watched St. Vincent, adorable movie!

Mon Aug 22 – back to work! Unlike most people, I don’t dislike work – I enjoy being productive as well as not cooped up at home.

Tues Aug 23 – scored a Cake beauty Milk Made shower gel from Winners, I’ve been on a search for this specific scent since it’s my favourite hand cream from Cake, as well as ClassicMaggie raved about it in her July empties.

Wed Aug 24 – tried a new-to-me sushi location suggested by a coworker as well as ate a tasty red dragon roll (with salmon) as well as shockingly it’s in a food court!

I just completed up one more ill-gotten bar of hotel soap (L’Occitane Shea Butter soap in Milk, my fav) as well as chose to open up a full sized soap next.  The Yves Rocher custom de Hammam Oriental Soap with Argan as well as Olive Oil was something I purchased on a whim, in purchase to qualify for totally free shipping on an on the internet order.

It’s noted as $17 for a 5.3 oz. / 150 g bar, however I understand that I paid less than half that cost when I purchased mine. That’s the thing to always keep in mind with Yves Rocher (YR): never ever pay full cost for anything from there.  They continuously have sales as well as all the products go on sale in rotation.

This soap is not your typical bar of soap, it’s rather extravagant as well as is available in a elegant metallic bronze coloured box, with the soap itself wrapped in frosted cellophane.

Upon opening the wrapper, the charm of the soap itself is revealed:

The bar is HUGE!  What’s strange is that it lathers up in reddish brown suds, as well as when it rinses, it makes the water a bit bit reddish brown too.

The primary reason why I purchased this soap was since I had tried the Oriental shower Oil from the exact same variety (it was a gwp), as well as I liked the odor of it (I’m not typically an “Oriental” fragrance fan, however this didn’t have a deep musky base note – it was actually a soft nutty smell).  Unfortunately, the soap doesn’t have the exact same fragrance – it smells mainly of olive oil to me.  Which isn’t required a poor thing, I just expected it to match the shower oil.  That was the only letdown really.
